'Shazam' for Plants Identifies Plants From Photos!
We love it when technology and nature are friends! A new app has been developed to identify plants and flowers from user-submitted photos. PlantNet is essentially Shazam for plants, and makes engaging with and learning about the nature surrounding us easier than ever before. It's available for iPhone and Android devices.
The PlantNet app works by collecting data from a large social network, which uploads pictures and information about plants. The app features visualisation software which recognises many plant species, provided they have been illustrated well enough in the botanical reference base.
PlantNet was originally developed by French research organisations, so it currently works on thousands of species of wild flora found in France, with the number of global species growing as more users contribute
